Virtual tours

Virtual tour

A virtual tour is when you look at a series of photos and or videos of an existing place it makes you feel as if you are at the place without actually leaving your house. There are many virtual tours that you can experience like the Smithsonian (my favourite) or you may even want to look at London’s landmarks. I like virtual tours because if you disabled and can’t move you can just take one of these tours, they also save you some big bucks that you might need in later life. In my opinion, I think virtual tours are an incredible idea yet there are some things I find that could go wrong e.g lagging of internet. However, in saying this virtual tours have a few highlights, like I said before virtual tours help you save money or if you’re unable to visit that place you can just take one. However you can’t really get a feel of the place and if you want to read a sign of the place you can’t see it whenever there is a highlight with the virtual tour there will usually be a lowlight. But in conclusion I think virtual tours are an amazing way to see the beautiful world in comfort of your own couch, they also show how much technology has really grown.

Orientation at TGC

Today the year 8 girls went to Girls College and I learnt a few things:

  1. That the pool that they have is really shallow at one side and a bit deep on the other side.
  2. There are 10 blocks named from a to m (excluding h, i and l.)
  3. The school is huge!!!
  4. There are 1400 students already there.
  5. If you're not in the top three classes you can get into them in year ten.
  6. Even though the school ends at 3:20 the busses come at 3:30.
  7. I will find out which tutor class I'm in on my first day of school.
  8. I will keep my deans for the five years I will be at college
  9. We wrote on a piece of paper.
  10. There swimming sports is fun and you don't need to take them seriously.
  11. Each teacher has a code name.
  12. Today proved 100000.99% that I will get lost on the first day of school.
  13. They talk about respect, participation and pride a lot
  14. I will start school on the 4th of February.
I am extremely excited about college and I can't wait to take on the amazing opportunities that I can do there.

Lorde and a tweet

We had to read this article about lorde and answer this question

Give your opinion on what happened here. Explain your opinion in full.

A former MP tweeted that it looked like lorde had epilepsy because of the way she danced on stage.

My advice for the new year sevens

My two years at tauranga intermediate is coming to an end. The new year sevens are soon coming into our school. Here is 20 tips for them.

  1. Never leave your friends from your primary school.
  2. Try to get into heaps of things that you are into.
  3. Always be humble (you are really lucky that you get to work with laptops so don't show off.)
  4. Wear your PE shorts under your skirt/shorts and roll them up so you don't have to worry about everyone seeing your undies.
  5. The drinking fountain outside room 29 squirts out water (use this as your weapon.)
  6. Stay on Mr Hearts good side at camp so you wont be shot with paintballs on the flying fox.
  7. Take in as much information as possible.
  8. Always have a good friend to turn to.
  9. Never get on Mr Divers bad side.

Life ed video/ 48 hr movie challenge

Last week we did a 48 hour movie challenge this is where we made a movie in 48 hours of our school week. My video is above. I have check the sound quality, camera skill, acting, editing, the poem, the quality of the life education message and teamwork.

Sound quality: I think my team did well with our sound quality we all spoke loud enough for the camera to hear us, however, There is one scene where you can't really hear Jamie (aka Tyler.) But if we had more time I think we could have solved this problem.

Camera skills: Jordan the camera girl did some really good shots and held the camera really steady. However I do think we needed a bit more angles, I think the problem was we just didn't have enough time so we would have probably improved that.

Acting: Our acting wasn't that bad. We tried to make our movie as believable as possible. But if we had a bit more time we could of perfected it.

Editing: Our editing was good, we had a montage and we made music to that. I just thought that one scene shouldn't really be there. Once again if we had more time I think we could of spent a bit more of it on editing.

Poem: Our poem was good I really liked it, however I don't think it really worked with our movie and I think it would of been better with a voice over. But it just comes down to time.

Quality of life ed message: Our movie showed REACH WITS which is what we learned in life ed. It also shows peer pressure into drugs which is most likely to happen to somebody. All in all I think we did the life ed message justice.

Teamwork: Our group worked really well as a team and we overcame any problems that we had really well.

A forum

A forum is an online discussion site where people can have conversations in the form of posted text.

A thread is like a topic, it is a group of post (usually organised from oldest to newest.) A thread is defined by a title.

An administrators job is to manage the technical details required for running a site. They can also promote and demote  (they demote and promote the players by if they are playing the rules.)

Here are some forum names and what they are for

MacRumours- Apple products
Major league Gaming- Video Gaming

Here is a forum about chocolate

The rules for a forum can be something like saying stupid things. If you break the rules you will most probably be banned from the site.

Enlargement

What 2 things do you always need to say to describe an enlargement? The scale factor and the centre of enlargement.
What does centre of enlargement mean? The postion of the enlarged shape is the centre of enlargement.
What is a scale factor? How many times you have to make a shape bigger or smaller.
Explain how to work out the scale factor on a grid, and with no grid. Use diagrams you have screenshot from the myimaths lesson.

You will see that the shape on the right has gotten bigger. You want to see look at one of the sdies of the smaller shape. You can see that one of the smaller shapes side is two squares. 2x2=4 and you can see that the bigger shapes side is 4.
What happens to the angle sizes in the corner of the shape when you enlarge it? When you enlarge a shape it gets bigger.

What I learned in life ed

drugs
There are many drugs that you can take and they all can be addictive. You can go crazy for drugs and you can loose everything for them, drugs can also be shot into your drink at a pub. There are classes for the types of drugs, class a does the most damaging and it goes down from there. Even though a drug isn't class a you can get addicted to them and die from it.
Drug over dosses can be a life and death situation. They can knock you out or do stupid things with them.

Alcohol effects
Alcohol can be dangerous and you need to be carful with it. In New Zealand you are allowed to drink alcohol when you're 18.  But just because you're allowed to doesn't mean you should. Alcohol can easily make you drunk which again will make you do stupid things. Imagine your at a party and your drunk, you feel sick and you need to go to the toilet. while you're waiting for the toilet you pass out, what would happen if a bunch of guys (who are also drunk) kick you in the face you can think of the side effects.

Alcohol
There are three types of alcohol drinks, they are:
Wine
Sprits
Beer

If I were to organise them to least amount of alcohol to the most amount it would be:

Beer
Wine
Sprits

You will see that when you are at a pub you will get a very small amount of sprits this is because there is so much alcohol in sprits that that is one standard glass of it.

You are more likely to get alcohol at a party then any other type of drug.

Recap on drugs and alcohol
In life ed I learnt many stories about people who have taken drugs, what they had turned into and then changed there lives. I never want to experience being addictive to drugs. I also learnt that nobody wants to be addictive to drugs you just get pear persuaded to do so.

Puberty
I learnt that there are seven steps of puberty and that you can really know when you finish or start it. There are many people who you can talk to about puberty such as your family. No questions about puberty are dumb so you just have to ask someone.

Life education poem

This is a poem I wrote about life ed.

You are lying there, you're hands are shaking
How long has it been since you've started breaking
The day you decided to say no to coke
Was quite possibly the day you broke

The amazing feeling you once had of cocanie
Has now been refilled with only incredible pain
The pain of loosing the things most important in life

They thought you were scary and that was a sight
You beat your child till he screams loud
So your neighbours wont hear the terrible sound
The family you once had is taken away, and
Your heart breaks in a terrible way

Transformations: Translate

  1. What is translation. Translation is moving a shape from one area to another.
  2. How dose a vector works. A vector tells the person how far left, right or up and down. It kind of looks like a fraction in a bracket the only thing that is different is that the line isn't there. The top number means how left or right you want the number to go and the bottom number indicates how far up or down it needs to go.
  3. A real life example . If you want to move a building you need to use translation to see how many meters or kilometres it needs to go.

you use translation in a grid.

Is the book disappearing?

The book is disappearing. Look around you how many pieces of paper can you see or can you even see a rare book in its eliminate, or can you just see technology. People on there phones, laptops, ipods, kindels and everything else that has something to do with a screen. Our world is getting so 'tech' that we barely realised this crime that we have done to our children. They will never read as many books as you did.

1/3 of our class reads on screens. Thats nine out of 31 people. But imagine in ten years time will books be extinct or will twenty years when they die out. Don't get me wrong, having a tablet or kindle would amazing. Kindles are more portable and are lighter than the 600 page book that you could be reading. They allow the reader to read everywhere and change the font size to there liking.

Libraries are getting more tech too. You can now hire an tablet at many libraries instead actually getting a book. Our school library even has Ebook account where every student in the school can read books online. Our libraries are losing a battle against books.

What do you think when our future generation might not even see a book in there life and we might have to take them to a museum to see one . What do you really think about our dying books.

Play writing

Today we had to read a Jack and Jill play. We can choose to write further along from the play or from another nursery rhyme. I have chosen to do Humpty Dumpty.

Humpty Dumpty and his great fall

Cast: Humpty Dumpty and boy

Scene 1

(Humpty Dumpty is sitting alone under a tree and looks at the sky)

Humpty Dumpty: Today is a great, the sun is shining and the birds are singing.

(Humpty Dumpty says to himself. Boy then walks over to Humpty Dumpty)

Boy: Hey Humpty, who are you talking too?

Humpty Dumpty: Just to myself I guess, today is a beautiful day don't you think?

Boy: I guess so, but it's really hot.

Humpty Dumpty: Yeah but I'm under the shade of this tree.

(Humpty Dumpty points to tree)

Boy: Yeah that tree must give you some shelter from the heat, but anyway I thought you might want to go swimming in the river with me and my friends?

Humpty Dumpty: Na, but thank you .

Boy: Well if your sure, but if you change your mind we will be there.

(Boy walks off)

Humpty Dumpty: On the other hand I would enjoy a nice swim.

(Humpty Dumpty tries to get off the wall)

Humpty Dumpty: AHHHHHH!

(Humpty Dumpty had a great fall)

Rotational Symmetry

Lets say you have an ordinary rectangle. If you turn that rectangle 360 degrees you will see that it will fit into itself two times. (When it's upside down and before you turned it.) This is called Rotational Symmetry. The rectangle has Rotational Symmetry order of two because it can fit into itself twice. Other shapes can have a different order of Rotational Symmetry and some may not have it at all.

Rotational Symmetry is different to the Line of Symmetry. The Line of Symmetry is when you cut a shape in half and both sides look the same. You can check if a shape has Rotational Symmetry when cut it out, put a marking on one of the sides and turn it until you see that shape on another side of it.

Here are some real life Rotational Symmetry

Another story to punctuate

"MUM! where are my favourite socks?" I asked, yelling for help.
"And where are my Tuesday undies?" asked Dad, searching through his drawers, "You know I have to wear them today." "Just wear Monday's undies, no one is going to know," replied Mum.
"No ones going to know you say? I'm going to know! and to wear Monday's undies, pfft that would be idiotic!" Dad answered back with a streak in his voice.
This was only the beginning of our familys disaster for the next few weeks, things were starting to disappear and fast. With Dad losing his Tuesday undies and me losing my favourite socks, Isaac then lost his favourite bow tie, Mum then lost her favorite dress. We thought we were going mental!
"It's not like they could just hop up and run away," said Isaac.
Mum suggested that we recap our steps.
"When was the last time you had your items?" she said.
We all replied before washing day was the last time we had them.
"So maybe it's the washing machine thats caused all this drama," Mum said, with a glimpse a hope in her eyes.
We checked the washing machine, there was… nothing! with nothing to prove I decided to put a GoPro in the machine, to watch it in action, to see if there was something suspicious really happening inside. What I didn’t realize was that the washing machine would take my GoPro too.
"AHHH ITS GONE!" I yelled at the top of my voice, "What are we going to do."
"Lets just give up," Mum said to me
"Fine if that’s the best idea," I moaned.
A few weeks later Isaac had dropped his toy car behind the washing machine and as we were looking for it a pair of undies popped up out of the blue just sitting there.
"Mum look!" I said with a big grin on my face.
"Who would have guessed?"
we both stood there smiling

Another story to puncuate

"Morning class," greeted Miss Green.
It was an ordinary day, everyone was sitting at their wooden desks with pens and pencils by their side. The sweet sound of voices filling the room brought music to my ears, I decided to listen in on Brittney's conversation with Ella.
"OMG, last night I reached into my bag to get out my book and it wasn’t there!" explained Brittney.
"No way!" replied Ella.
That exact same thing happened to me, I was sure I put it in my bag but now it was gone. This is a little strange, I thought to myself, why are things disappearing.

Eventually, the bell went and it was time to go home. I told my mum what I had witnessed at school and she was lost for words.

That night I couldn't get Brittany's and Ella's conversation out of my head. I grabbed my laptop out of my bag to google this mystery, as I unzipped the case, I looked down only to see that there was no laptop in my bag. This was insane, I decided to look in my other pocket of my bag, and to my surprise my lunch box was also missing.

The sun was shining, birds were singing, it seemed like an ordinary day. I walked into my class that is usually full of colour, but not today, my class looked like a prison cell.
"What happened?" I gasped.
"Don't worry kids," assured Miss Green, "We have a thief in our class and I'm going to get to the bottom of this,"
One by one, Miss Green started checking our bags. Everyone seemed relaxed, except for James, Miss Green made her way down the line and James was last to be checked.
"Oh!" said Miss Green looking rather lost, "What is this?" she asked James.
As she pulled out two books, a pencil case, my laptop and two class posters from James's bag.

I was utterly shocked to say the least.
"I'm so sorry!" cried James, "It's just that everyone has laptops or books and our class is so colourful that I wanted to take some of it home to make my house look better. The truth is that you should be happy with what you have and not want stuff from other people."

Punctuate

I need to punctuate this piece correctly.

It was a monday morning, I just got woken up by my mum to get ready for school I got out of bed and reached down for my uniform but it wasn't there. I looked under my bed under my pillows but I couldn't find my uniform anywhere.
"Kaidin, have you gotten in the shower yet?"
"No mum, I can't find my uniform."
"Well you better find it quick or you will be going to school in your onesie."
"But mum, I can't find it anywhere it’s like its just disappeared."
"Oh sure just like all your other stuff huh Kaidin?"

I got a note to go to school with to say that my uniform is lost and that I have to wear mufti just for today. Which was a pain because every teacher I walked past asked why I'm in mufti and where my uniform is; so I just showed them the note and moved on. When I got home I went to go grab my iPod from where I always put it, but when I looked and that wasn't there I yelled out to my mum. "Mum, have you seen my iPod?"
"No, but do you know where you last put it?"
"Mum, if I knew where I last put it do you think I'd be asking you where it is?"
"Sorry, just trying to help."

I thought to myself that I'll try to find it later so I ran into my room to go on my PS3, but surprise surprise it’s not there.
"Mum!"
"Oh what now Kaidin?"
"I know you're up to mischief. tell me where all my stuff is!"
"Kaidin, do you really think I would hide your uniform away from you? so you would go to school in your onesie? Now what’s gone missing now?"
"My PS3 the whole thing! the controller is here but not my HDMI cable, power cord or my Elgato!"

I really couldn't be bothered looking for all my stuff because it will take me hours, so I just thought of going for a bike ride. I walked outside to get my bike and I couldn't believe it. My bike  had no tyres.
By this time I've had enough, I went up to my mum and said
"Mum, I know you’ve put all my stuff somewhere please can I have it back?"
"Kaidin, I have hidden your stuff away would you like to get it back?"
"Yes! Where is it? Where is it? Where is it?"
"Right here."
My mum led me to her bedroom where my stuff was all scatterd around the room. My PS3 the power cord, the HDMI and my Elgato. My iPod was under her drawers and my bike tyres were under Liams bed and  my uniform was in my mums drawers.
"Okay thanks mum for hiding my stuff."
"Thats, okay I'll do it again sometime."
"hahaha, yeah right!"

Rimu Peel

Write a PEEL paragraph responding to this statement

Rimu is the best syndicate at TIS.

I've been in Rimu for around two years and in that time I've realised that it is the best house for many reasons. Firstly, I've considered the teachers and the hard work they've done for us. Rimu teachers are the best teachers at making us 'grow our knowledge' during the year that we have with them. Secondly, the technology, Rimu house is the only laptop house, using laptops helps us work in a more independent way. In mainstream classes teachers and students struggle with only having a few desktop computers and some ipads, they also have to share the computer room, this makes it hard for teacher as she has to explain everything. Lastly, the Rimu house chant. Made by Mrs Mills last year, the Rimu chant shows the other houses that we are the best, as well as making all the houses scared, the Rimu chant has some humor (e.g when we say shift it to the left shift it to the right.) Although have a three days and a term till I'm off to college and have to say I'm dreading going. Rimu is an exended family that I'll remember forever.

Using PEEL

Write a PEEL paragraph responding to this statement

Being a mum is easy, yeah right! First of all, the making of the lunches, every morning I wake up at 6 to get everybody's lunches ready. I find this really hard as my kids are really picky. Secondly, being the driver, to dance and back, to swimming and back and to school and back. I drive my kids everywhere which wastes my fuel and any spare time that I might have had. Another point of why being a mum is hard is the jobs that I have to do. I mow the lawns vaccum the floor and walk the dog while my kids watch tv, that really gets my blood pumping! Anyway, being a mum is hard, to the day that they can speak, to the day they leave home and start their own family.

Mr Diver, our principal in a paragraph

Mr Diver is the most successful principal because he can control a school full of tweens. Firstly I want to state that when we're at assembly he can really control us. What I mean is that he only needs to stand up from his seat and give us an angry look and 75% of us are silent. Secondly, if there is a fight going on he will be the first teacher in on the action. He races towards a fight and within a second he's spilt the fighters and is telling them off. Another example is that when we are giving our teachers a hard time he will stop us. He does this by walking into a classroom and asks whats going on, we all get scared when he does find out what's going on. Although there are many other examples to why and how Mr Brain Diver is the most controlled principal Tauranga Intermediate has ever seen I though these three examples captures him the most.
